These pictures were taken of an Israeli Merkava battletank rolling home from Lebanon.

Something (probably a PG-7M or similar RPG munition) has damaged part of its turret's armor, tearing away one of the spaced armor modules flanking the main gun and revealing some interesting details of the armor underneath.

Like most nations' militaries, the IDF is fairly secretive about the makeup and layout of its armor systems. These images may have scientific and engineering value to those interested in advanced composite armors.
