The physharmonica is a small version of the melodicon and harmonium. Designed in Vienna in 1821 by Anton Haeckl, the physharmonica stood in many parlors by the end of the nineteenth century. The French version, displayed here, features a single-fold wedge bellows on the back, a double-fold wedge reservoir, a swell for the upper two octaves, and four "registers" to play different degrees of loudness.
