In 1905 Theodore M. Davis, an American from Providence, R.I., discovered an intact tomb in the Valley of the Kings. This tomb, KV 46, contained the burials of Yuya and Tjuyu, the father and mother of Queen Tiye, who was the principal wife of Amenhotep III. The majority of the objects from the tomb are now in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo. This shabti, which is inscribed for Yuya, was among the small portion of the finds that were awarded to Davis by the Egyptian Antiquities Service and were later bequeathed by Davis to the Metropolitan Museum. This funerary figurine was made by the finest craftsmen who served the royal court. It has been inscribed with the shabti text from the Book of the Dead, which ensures that shabti will take Yuya's place if he is required to perform agricultural labor in the afterlife.Other pieces from the tomb that are now in the Museum's collection include two more shabtis (30.8.56 and 30.8.58), two shabti shrines (30.8.59 and 30.8.60), a set of shabti implements (30.8.61-.64), two storage jars (11.155.7 and 11.155.9), and a pair of sandals (10.184.1a, b).Free picture Shabti of Yuya integrated with the OffiDocs web apps
