The table comes from the Farnese Palace in Rome. The top is an inlay of various marbles and semiprecious stones. The two "windows" in the center are of oriental alabaster, and the piers are of carved marble. The lilies (fleurs-de-lis) in the decoration at the top are emblems of the Farnese family; the coat of arms on the piers belonged to Cardinal Alessandro Farnese, who died in 1589.
