Born in Chicago, Gene moved at a young age with his family to Daytona Beach. In the sixties, he worked for Daytona Beach surfboards, pin-striping and airbrushing boards. Later, he attended the Art Institute of Atlanta. Gene was a gifted artist, illustrator, cartoonist and designer. In the late seventies, he was the Art Director for Surf and Skate magazines, based in Indialantic. Along with his wife, Gene started Beach Studios, a graphic arts company that for 30 years has designed numerous logos for local companies, designed books and created art for medical and educational publishers. Gene was a respected musician who loved jamming. Many local musicians have enjoyed trading licks with him and he was featured guitarist on a number of CDs with various artists. Gene had a great sense of humor, and this was evident in his art, especially his cartoons and party perspectives. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
