"Vesuvius"

by: Wes Robert Ward

Ashes to dust, burnt to crust. Fire and brimstone, volcanic and overblown. A mountain of liquid lava flowed. A red and an orange thickening consuming gleaming glow.

Down and deep, a slow boiling heat, bubbling and brewing, stewing and sliding. Conquering and colliding then cremating every mankind it could find.

Dying, people were dying. Burning, screaming, melting, dying. Skin crisping. Flesh ripping. Skin cracking. Flesh burning. Burning people, blazing life, extinguishing their existence. From creation to extinction Vesuvius murdered and maimed.

Nature, one can only laugh as it takes away half. Nature, one can only cry as it takes away all in it's path that die.

Dead, they all died. Cried as they fried. Screamed as they burnt. Many horribly hurt, running for dirt and high ground, running for water, far to be found.

Vesuvius, a volcanic mountain so high. People of Pompeii and other settlements, thousands or so died. As if they defied Vesuvius thus ending in gloom causing their doom.

A beautiful woman, gorgeous and fair. Burned alive, no one survived. She with the lovely dark hair turned to red flame. No name on her tomb, buried beneath the bodies of Gods. Underneath the souls Vesuvius claims sending all to flames.

Spirits remain just the same. What became was past and done. The sun shines, the grass grows, the mountainous volcano no longer flows.

Roses grow, that's all you need to know. As if the souls of the past bloom in different colors of the dead bringing back the beauty within enchanting flower beds.

May the tears of heavens above keep them alive and may the tears provide their soil, and soothe the beast of Vesuvius inside. For if Vesuvius ever woke… there would be nowhere to hide.

The End. 🌹
