Download or edit the free picture 17776 - the non-archived image files for GIMP online editor. It is an image that is valid for other graphic or photo editors in OffiDocs such as Inkscape online and OpenOffice Draw online or LibreOffice online by OffiDocs.

As it currently exists, the Internet Archive's "Wayback Machine" isn't archiving most of the images used in Jon Bois' "17776", as most of the images are only fetched by JavaScript at runtime. (Viewing the pages in the Wayback Machine displays the images fine as long as the original server is online; but should it ever go down, the Wayback won't have copies of its own to display instead.)

This is a copy of every image used in the story that is not already stored by the Wayback machine. (To be specific, it's every image other than the ones on the index page, the one in Intermission 3, and the "to be continued" / "the end" images.) Each image used in the story has a unique filename, so this should be enough to reassign them to their place in the story at a later date. (The exact form that that project would take, should it prove necessary, is left for whoever feels like tackling it.)

These images were fetched by taking the original image URLs from the image reprocessor links, i.e. from a link like this rather than a link like this. This guaranteed they were being fetched at their original resolution, and also had the side effect of fetching higher-quality copies of the JPEG images that were otherwise being further compressed by Thumbor. It also means that these JPEGs include color profile information that was stripped by Thumbor, which means they will appear tinted slightly differently than the images that appeared on the page, but that look can be reproduced by stripping the color profiles out of these copies as well if desired.

Please note: 1_48.jpg is a PNG file which was named ".jpg" loading="lazy" for some reason; this is left as-is for the sake of matching the filenames to the tags.

I am not connected with SBNation or Jon Bois or 17776 in any way; I just wanted to make sure parts of this great story would not be lost if something happened.

If you are using this in combination with the Wayback machine in order to reconstitute the story in some new format, you might also be interested in my backups of the story's video files.
