"The Winner Takes It All" was released in the summer of 1980, as the first single from "Super Trouper", a good 3 months before the album. The uptempo ballad was one of ABBA's biggest hits. Considered the prime example of ABBA's divorce themed songs, lead vocals were by Agnetha, whose then-recent divorce from ABBA's Björn formed the starting point for the lyrics - which Björn wrote. The B-side was uniformly "Elaine". Of the releases submitted on Discogs, the only exception is the Argentine commercial 7", where the Spanish version of "Hasta Mañana" was used instead. (Since both sides have their own master, it is placed outside any master.)
The same happy 'tropical shirts' cover design (which is hardly in line with the 'divorce' theme of the A-side) was used on all releases, except in East Germany (text design) and India (unique 'live' design). A 12" with a pop-up gatefold sleeve was released in the UK.
