The carving of this stela is typical of the post-Amarna style of the early reign of Ramesses II. Pai was the overseer of the royal harim in Memphis, an influential position tha later passed to his son Raia. Fragments from Pai's tomb have been found near the tombs of Maia and Horemhab in the necropolis of Saqqara, and it is likely that his tomb is located in the same area.
