A basket of flowers with long, pendant cords blown by the wind appears beneath a partially rolled-up bamboo blind, or misu. The long, horizontal format is particularly daring. Closer inspection reveals an embossed decoration on the white cords. Hokusai's signature reads S\u014dri aratame Hokusai Shin ga ("painted by Hokusai Shin, changed from S\u014dri"); two seals, in red and white characters, read Tokimasa. The artist used the name Tokimasa during his S\u014dri and early Hokusai periods.
