This silk tapestry, with its design of a dragon among flowers and leaves, was woven as a book cover for an essay written by the Qianlong emperor called Yubi chuangye shoucheng nan yi shuo (An Essay on the Difficulty and Ease of Founding and Maintaining a Dynasty, Written by the Emperor). The textile's pattern was probably copied from a Song dynasty piece, such as an early-twelfth-century tapestry-woven album leaf now in the collection of the National Palace Museum, Taipei.
