The ancient Egyptians used stamped mud sealings to secure shrine doors, boxes, and stone and pottery jars. At some point in its history, this sealing was exposed to fire and has become terra cotta, making it somewhat more stable. The seal is a cartouche surmounted by two ostrich plumes with a sun disk between them. The hieroglyphs Inside the cartouche read "Amun-Re, Lord of the Thrones of the Two Lands in Ipet-sut (Karnak)."
