According to Zhang Xuezeng's inscription, Ye Xin's painting is based on Zhou Lianggong's description of one of the scenic spots that he visited in Fujian Province during his tour of duty there from 1647 to 1654:This is the view of White Crane Mountain in Min [Fujian], where the [Ming dynasty] general Shaobao [Qi Jiguang, 1528\u20131588] defeated the dwarfs [Japanese pirates]. Yuanlao nianweng [Zhou Lianggong] was once a government official there. He spoke of its beauty and Rongmu [Ye Xin] painted it. The painting allows one to travel there in one's imagination.
