Front and back of a Dominican Republic One Peso note. Got this peso when I visited Santa Domingo for a New Year's Celebration in 1978 or 79 with Florida Air Travel Association. I recall being assaulted by two local ganstas who met up and followed me as I walked a few blocks to another hotel to visit members of my travel group. The guys offered to accompany me to the market and get a "locals" only discount because I was with them. When I refused several times they stopped me and offered and I remember clearly the words, "How much is it worth not to have your little finger cut off?" Needless to say I was astounded and frightened, as the light changed at an intersection I darted across the street in front of oncoming traffic and ran to the hotel. The men followed me into the hotel restaurant where I told them I would call the Police (I don't think they cared if I did) but since I was with a group they decide to leave and try another day. I didn't take anymore walks or taxi-cab rides alone. I will NEVER go back to Dominican Republic for anything!Free picture 1978 Dominica Un Peso Oro integrated with the OffiDocs web apps
