Mac Dyer, an Orlando painting contractor and nine-year Little League umpiring veteran, returns as umpire-in-chief for the 26th Annual Senior League World Series Monday through Saturday at Osceola County Stadium.
Dyer's duties include scheduling 18 umpires to work the six-day, double- elimination tournament. His crew, which has a combined 265 years of experience, features umpires from seven states, Canada and Puerto Rico.
Florida umpires are Blake Mason, Orlando, an 11-year veteran; Jim Read, Orlando, 11 years; Jerry Munson, Orlando, 9 years; Harold Brooks, St. Cloud, 12 years; George Knai, Orlando, 15 years; Frank Tasch, Winter Park, 18 years; and Myles Albritton, Bowling Green, 10 years.
California is represented by Ken Kieling, Laguna Hills, 21 years; and Bill Beebe, Mission Viejo, 15 years. Others are Bob Hooper, Waldorf, Md., 35 years; Jeff Wilson, Fort Wayne, Ind., 13 years; Tom Zimmerman, Mishawaka, Ind., 16 years; Jerry Kleitz, Louisville, Ky., 21 years; Gerald Fryoux, Baton Rouge, La., 18 years; Glen Fiebig, Emporium, Pa., 21 years; Rick Samas Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, 9 years; and Luis Rivera Toledo, Hato Rey, Puerto Rico, 12 years.
"They're dedicated, hard working, often unappreciated men with a variety of backgrounds and -- true to the Little League spirit -- all volunteers," said Tournament Director Lou Emery. "They've come from all parts of the country with no travel expenses provided to be a part of the World Series."
