by William Hogarth from 1733 to 1735.

The eight pictures in the cycle show the descent and fall

of Tom Rakewell, who,

after the death of his rich but extremely stingy father,

leads a debauched life in London,

wasting his inheritance in brothels and gambling hothills.

As a result of his extravagant and lavish lifestyle,

the negative hero ends up in a prison of guilt and ends up in a madhouse.
